My First Summer in the Sierra
Famed conservationist John Muir traveled through the Sierra Nevada Mountains in 1869. He was with shepherds and a flock of sheep going to summer pasture. He recorded his experiences through this untouched wilderness, and published it as a book in 1911. The first chapters of the book are included in this reading set.
