Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Cuisine Activity
Asian American and Pacific Islander communities have a wealth of different foods that they enjoy in everyday life and during unique occasions. Specific countries also have specialty cuisine. For example, Japan enjoys sushi while in Korea, families love kimchi. As your students complete this Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month reading comprehension activity, learners will first read about foods that exist in different cultures and then answer three short-answer questions to help them think about the details of the text and reflect on them. Remind students that with so many details, it is important to do a close reading. Additionally, prepare students to connect personally and think about how their experiences are echoed in or similar to those of the AAPI community. There is opportunity for students to think about their own experiences with food (or as helpers in the kitchen!). Use this print-and-go packet as an easy addition to your Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month lesson plans.
