Identify Metaphors Activity (1)

Metaphors are a big part of poetry analysis and they come up in stories frequently. As students grow in their literacy skills and get exposure to different texts, they also learn about all different types of figurative language techniques. This requires a great deal of abstract thinking and practice. On this worksheet, students will review ten sentence and underline the metaphors. Be sure to discuss why the metaphors mean more than just their literal words in order to confirm student understanding. This would be a great worksheet to use as a homework task or as a next-day bell-ringer after reviewing what metaphors are and looking at plenty of examples.
