Concrete Noun Examples
Introduction
Concrete nouns are nouns that refer to physical objects, people, or places. Concrete nouns can also be perceived through the five senses: sight, touch, taste, sound, and smell.
These are in contrast to abstract nouns, which are those that cannot be perceived by the senses and are not concrete or physical. Abstract nouns include things like feelings and character traits.
Concrete and abstract nouns are unique classifications, so a noun can never be both concrete and abstract at the same time. The noun is either one or the other.
Definition
Concrete nouns are nouns that refer to physical objects, people, or places.
Examples
Concrete nouns are those items that can be perceived with the senses. Here are some groups of concrete nouns:
People: Abraham Lincoln, Queen Elizabeth, Joe Jonas, and Michael Jordan. Even though some of these people are deceased they are still considered concrete nouns. Even fictional characters and other figures are considered concrete nouns. That would make Peter Pan, Hedwig, and The Cat in the Hat concrete.
Objects: Pinwheels, ice skates, trees, cats, dogs, and spoons are all concrete objects that can be perceived by touch.
Places: Australia, home, school, and Florida are all places that can be perceived in the real world.
