The Pillar Concrete Poem Activity
"The Pillar" is a famous example of a concrete poem. Written long ago, the poet shaped the poem in the shape of a pillar to communicate a specific message. Print and analyze with your students. Be sure to show them pictures of pillars so that they can access prior knowledge and understand what a pillar is as well as how it can be symbolic. In this worksheet, students will read the poem and annotate and then answer one short-answer poetry question about the poem's message.
